BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) is the leading and most widely used environmental assessment method for commercial buildings. BREEAM assessments can be performed on refurbishments to existing buildings, entirely new buildings, new and refurbished sections to existing buildings, or to a new fit-out of a building.

Within each of the nine caterogies there are a number of issues were credits can be awarded dependant on the design specification. The total of these credits determine the overall BREEAM rating.
