BREEAM Assessements

BREEAM Assessments

BRE's Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) is the leading and most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings. It sets the standard for best practice in sustainable design and has become the de facto measure used to describe a building's environmental performance. (www.breeam.org)

Sustainable Homes and Gardens offers the following BREEAM Assessments;

  • Industrial
  • Bespoke
  • International
  • Offices
  • Education
  • Retail
  • Healthcare.

Our assessors have experience in the different BREEAM schemes including complex multi purpose bespoke schemes. Each project will have a dedicated assessor, therefore having a better understanding of the development. We can work with your design team from the start to advise you on how to achieve the desired rating. From here there are three different stages:

  1. the pre assessment estimator meeting and report,
  2. the design stage assessment, where we will collect evidence from you, we will then  provide you with a design stage certificate, preferably before the building is complete,
  3. the final post construction assessment. This is based on more evidence being collected and a site inspection, a certificate will then be handed over with the rating of the building.

In addition to the assessment, Sustainable Homes and Gardens have an in-house landscape designer that can work alongside your architect to produce an ecological BREEAM planting plans and, an aesthically and workable landscape design that will offer the most credits possible for your BREEAM assessment.

More on BREEAM...

The Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methods (BREEAM and the Code for Sustainable Homes) are used to assess the environmental performance of both new and existing buildings.

BREEAM is a commercial environmental assessment covering a wide range of buildings from office blocks to Cinemas. The development is assessed on a number of environmental areas from water efficiency to energy management strategy. There are 10 different categories within the assessment; Management, Health and Wellbeing, Energy, Transport, Water, Waste, Pollution, Land Use and Ecology, Materials and Innovation. Points are awarded against each category issue, and an overall BREEAM rating given to the development at the end of the process.

Why have a BREEAM assessment?

A BREEAM assessment maybe mandatory or voluntary depending on your local authority, however it can promote the environmental credentials and benefits of a building to potential purchasers and tenants.

BREEAM assessment is regarded by the UK's construction and property sectors as the measure of best practice in environmental design and management.

If you want to get some advice or if you require any more information on how Sustainable Homes and Gardens can help get your desired BREEAM rating then please feel free to contact us, we are a friendly bunch of assessors!
